By the roadside, off a two lane highway to Creed, Colorado, this group of mountain goats stop grazing and watch us closely as we come closer to them. We are moving at sixty plus miles per hour carrying a load of household items to Richard’s shipping container/cabin/storage unit at Hermit’s Lake, still an hour’s drive away.

Richard sees the goats first and slows the van.

The goats, as we pull to the side of the highway and watch them, scamper back onto the mountain cliffs that give them safety.

The moment passes.

Barreling down the highway, doing the speed limit, we see the goats become smaller and smaller in our rear view mirror.

Serendipity doesn’t last.
